The Location:

Belize is a wall diver’s paradise. Sheer walls like Painted Wall, Half Moon Caye Wall, and Quebrada are adorned with huge crimson gorgonians and giant orange elephant ear sponges. Moray eels, spiny lobsters and tiny arrow crabs hide in every crack, crevice, cave, and tunnels of these beautiful coral formations. These are just a few things you will see at Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Cay, and Turneffe Reef.

Marine life: Dolphin, Tarpon, Sharks, Eagle Rays, Walls and Reefs with abundant marine life and multiple macro critters.

Itinerary Extras: Port fee: $110 includes cruising tax & park fee at the end of the charter when settling your bill. These may be paid by Visa, MC, USD or BZ cash. Travelers’ checks are not accepted onboard. Taxes and fees paid onboard the yacht is subject to change without notice.

Arrival/Boarding/Departure:

Doug and Heidi will provide their flight information in Q1 2022.  Everyone does not need to be on the same flight, but it often helps.  As of October 29, 2021 flights on Southwest Airlines from Houston Hobby to Belize City are $308 ROUND TRIP economy and $388 business class.

Please see further logistics information below.

Guests will be met by a crew member in uniform at the Belize City (BZE) International Airport and transferred to the yacht. Guests may board Saturday between 3 pm – 6 pm. At 6 pm, the yacht departs for its night anchorage to prepare for diving Sunday morning. After a full week of diving, the Belize Aggressor IV returns back to the Radisson Ft. George docks in Belize City Friday afternoon after lunch. Check-out is Saturday morning at 8 am. Transportation is provided back to the Belize City International Airport Saturday morning.

Every Saturday at 6 pm, the luxurious Belize Aggressor casts off from the Radisson Ft. George docks for liveaboard scuba diving, located in the heart of downtown Belize City for a week of hassle-free diving to Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Cay, and the famous Blue Hole. The mystical Blue Hole, a collapsed freshwater cave system is approximately 1000 feet across and over 400 feet deep. The Blue Hole was made famous by ocean pioneer Jacques-Yves Cousteau who declared it one of the Top Ten Dive Sites in the World. In 1971, he brought his ship, the Calypso, to the Blue Hole to chart its depths. Once descended into the Blue Hole guests will see beautiful vertical stalactite formations.

Belize liveaboard scuba diving begins Sunday morning and ends Friday before lunch when the Belize Aggressor III or IV returns to port. Sunday through Thursday, there is unlimited diving throughout the day and a night dive each evening. Friday, a half-day of diving is offered. A trip to this Central American paradise isn’t complete without a visit to Belize’s Mayan ruins, a cave tubing ride through the jungle, or a canopy tour through the treetops. Tours are offered on Friday afternoon, but an extended stay is recommended to fully enjoy the wonders of Belize and its corner of the Caribbean. Guests may enjoy the Radisson Ft. George Hotel pool and bar area free of charge on Saturday.

**Black Water Diving Info

As you know, blackwater diving is a very specialized craft, so please be mindful of the skill level required to conduct drift dives in open ocean environments. We will have extra camera buckets on deck and extra crew on hand to help out.

These 3-day, 3-night excursions will carry photographers much farther afield than any sport diving trip we’ve run in the past. On the way out, Monday, during the day, we’ll make two leisurely “shakedown” dives to give you a chance to work out all the kinks in your gear. One of these will probably be a platform dive, and the other will be at the West Bank. But the main event takes place Monday night.

Blackwater diving focuses (literally) on photographing the small ocean creatures that migrate from the depths each night to feed on planktons nearer the surface. The variety of these animals is absolutely endless! They’re freaky and cool and bizarre.

So shortly after dark, we’ll jump divers on special-purpose drift balls. The balls will be fitted with lights to make them easy to find, and the weighted line below them will give divers a place to surface and congregate. The first dive will be at the West Bank. We’ll drop the mooring and motor up-current a ways, then drop our ball and divers (8-10 divers per ball), so you’ll drift over the bank and then off it into deeper water.

For the next dive or two, we’ll motor into still deeper waters, in the 600-1200 ft range, to hunt crazy animals there. We’ll end up diving over a canyon with 3000 fsw below us.

The next day, you’ll sleep and recover, and we’ll make at least one day dive, probably on the cervaza oil platform, which stands in 935 ft of water. Then the night-time fun begins again. First, with a dive over the “Horseshoe Basin”, which features a maximum depth of around 6,000 ft, and a central geologic feature that rises to 3000 ft deep. All this is surrounded by drop off from the surrounding ocean bottom. From there we work our way inshore for a slightly shallower dive in the 1300-2000ft range, and then finish up with a dive on the Cerveza Platform in 935 ft (this will likely be the first blackwater diving ever done on a deep water platform, anywhere in the world).

All the night dives are drift dives, so our process will include heavy use of our small boat to corral divers (you know who you are!) who get separated from their buoy lines. Obviously, this is not beginner diving. But if you know blackwater diving, you know that we’re about to log a lot of firsts. It’s not unheard of for blackwater divers to document previously unknown species of animals, so come prepared to do some really cool work and have a great time!

Six (6) blackwater dives (Monday and Tuesday nights)
Four (4) day dives (Monday – Platform, West Bank; Tuesday Cerveza Rig; Plus a bonus Stetson dive on the way home)

Full payment is due at time of booking.

Trip Cancellation Policy – Once you book the trip, the space is yours, no refunds.  However, if the trip cancels due to weather, then you can get a full refund less the credit card processing fee or roll your money to another available date for the full value.  See details above for other forms of payments to avoid processing fees when trips cancel.
